The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, has threatened a decisive response after the devastating Israeli strikes on Lebanon, DPA reported, BTA reported.
“Ceasefire violations have a clear price and receive tough responses“, Ghalibaf wrote today on the social network “Ex“ - a day after more than 200 people were killed and more than 1,000 injured in Israeli air strikes in Lebanon.
Israel insists that its conflict with the Lebanese Shiite movement “Hezbollah“ is not covered by the ceasefire with Iran, which was announced by US President Donald Trump on Tuesday and which Pakistan has brokered.
Ghalibaf was referring to remarks by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who said Lebanon was included in the ceasefire.
“Lebanon and the entire Axis of Resistance, as allies of Iran, are an integral part of the ceasefire. Sharif has publicly and clearly emphasized the Lebanese issue. There is no room for denial and retreat,” the speaker of the legislature added.
Israel’s attacks on Lebanon have raised concerns that the fragile truce, which includes the reopening of the key Strait of Hormuz, could quickly collapse.
Peace talks between representatives of Iran and the United States are due to begin tomorrow in Islamabad, but Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the ongoing Israeli strikes on Lebanon were making them meaningless, TASS and AFP reported.
“The repeated aggression against Lebanon is a clear violation of the initial ceasefire agreement. This is a dangerous signal of deception and non-compliance with any agreements. Continuing such actions will make the negotiations meaningless,“ he wrote on his social media page.
Pezeshkian noted that the Iranian armed forces are on standby.
