Iran is engaged in “short-term blackmail“ of countries for passage through the Strait of Hormuz; it has no other “cards“, US President Donald Trump said in Truth Social.
“The only reason they are alive today is because they are negotiating!“, he added.
The US and Iranian governments agreed to a two-week ceasefire on April 8.
The talks are scheduled for Saturday, April 11, in Pakistan. Both sides have accused each other of violating preliminary agreements.
Trump had earlier accused Iran of violating the terms of the ceasefire. He said that Iran's collection of fees from tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz was unacceptable. He stressed that Washington and Tehran had agreed on other terms of the ceasefire.
Iran has suspended tanker transit through the strait following Israeli strikes on Lebanese territory.
