Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed the prospects for stabilizing the military-political situation in the Middle East, including ensuring freedom of navigation and resolving the situation around Iran's nuclear program.
This was stated in a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry after a telephone conversation between the ministers.
“Following the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and Abbas Araghchi, held in St. Petersburg on April 27, 2026, the two sides continued an in-depth exchange of views on the prospects for a complete cessation of hostilities, stabilizing the military-political situation in the Middle East, including ensuring freedom of navigation and resolving the situation around Iran's nuclear program“, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced ministry.
“Russia’s support for the ongoing mediation efforts” was emphasized.
“They confirmed their readiness to fully cooperate in the political and diplomatic process in the interests of achieving sustainable agreements aimed at establishing long-term peace in the region,” the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.
“Special attention was paid to the passage of Russian ships and cargo through the Strait of Hormuz,” the diplomatic department reported.
