The sanctions from the new EU sanctions package against Russia have come into force, the official EU publication reported.

The Council of the European Union approved the 18th package of sanctions against Russia on Friday. It affects 14 individuals, including film director Karen Shakhnazarov, the rector of the Crimean University Vladimir Kuryanov, the former head of the Territorial Development Fund Ilshat Shagiakhmetov and 41 legal entities.

Among the legal entities subject to restrictions are the Ulyanovsk Machine-Building Plant; Aleksinsky Experimental Mechanical Plant; Ryazan State Instrument Plant; Joint-Stock Company “Polymer“; LLC "Inroel"; "Krafttek"; "Aeroscan".

Of these legal entities, 18 are registered in the UAE, Singapore, Mauritius, China, India and Azerbaijan.

Transactions with 22 Russian banks, including T-Bank, Yandex Bank and Ozon Bank, as well as the Russian Direct Investment Fund and its subsidiaries, are prohibited;

An automatic mechanism for changing the oil price ceiling is introduced, which will reduce the price ceiling for Russian oil to approximately $47.6 per barrel;

The import of petroleum products produced from Russian raw materials and imported from other countries, with the exception of Canada, Norway, Switzerland, the UK and the US, is prohibited;

A complete ban on operations related to "Nord Stream" is introduced;
Exemptions for the import of Russian fuel to the Czech Republic are canceled;
For the first time, sanctions affect an unnamed ship captain, as well as a private international shipping company.

The EU could not agree on the 18th package for a long time. Its adoption was hindered by Slovakia and Hungary, who fear the negative consequences of the ban on the import of Russian energy resources.

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Europe has “cut off its own leg“ by deciding to refuse cheap energy from Russia. Russia's permanent representation to the European Union noted that the new “coercive” sanctions will worsen the already deplorable state of the EU economy.
