The EU's future multiannual financial framework for the period from 2028 to 2034 could include aid for Ukraine in the amount of €88 billion, the European publication Politico reports, citing a draft document.

It includes the allocation of €190 billion for the “Global Europe“ aid program and €522 billion for the “European Competitiveness Fund“ program, the aim of which will be to stimulate investment in key sectors and common projects. It is noted that the new budget will be “more flexible“, allowing the EU to respond more quickly to crises.

The head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen intends to propose new measures to increase the EC's revenue. Additional taxes will be imposed, among other things, on tobacco products and companies with a turnover of more than EUR 50 million.

Earlier, the Euractiv portal reportedthat the draft 7-year budget plan for the community has emerged against the backdrop of growing concerns about welfare and security. Serious economic problems, including low labor productivity, weak demand and the situation with energy prices, could, according to the portal, be exacerbated by the rivalry between the US and China, climate change and the alleged military threat from Russia. The new plan may turn out to be just as ineffective as the previous one.
