BFSA destroyed hundreds of kilograms of meat and sealed a warehouse in Lukovit - 1

Inspectors from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency destroyed 366 kg of unfit meat and meat products in Lukovit. The goods found in a wholesale warehouse were expired, without the mandatory identification marking and without documents of origin.

During the large-scale inspection, three sub-zero refrigerators were also sealed, in which another 460 kg of pork knuckle were found. The meat is under seizure due to a discrepancy between the data on the packaging and the commercial documents. A counter-inspection was carried out on the meat supplier in Plovdiv, which confirmed a technical error in writing the expiration date.

The inspectors also found another serious violation – in the warehouse, labels in Bulgarian were placed on individual food packages without regulation. A report will be drawn up for this violation of the company.

The list of shortcomings at the Lukovit site is supplemented by the lack of a mandatory food safety management system. The operator has not provided records of its maintenance. In addition, the warehouse did not have a contract with a licensed company for the destruction of animal by-products, nor evidence that such products have been transferred so far.

The warehouse's operations have been temporarily suspended. It will be able to reopen, and the prohibited meat will be released only after all violations are eliminated and proper documents are presented.
