Sociologists: Nearly 3.3 million Bulgarians voted in the parliamentary elections - 1

Expectations for high voter turnout were justified, in all likelihood it will approach 3.3 million voters. This was stated in “This Morning“ by sociologist Genoveva Petrova from “Alpha Research“. This is nearly 800 thousand votes more than in the parliamentary elections in 2024.

According to the latest data, about 200 thousand Bulgarians cast their votes abroad.

“One winner is very clear, there are nuances among the losers. While with GERB we note a huge loss of electoral territory, with PP-DB, which climbed to second place, we see nominal growth, a recovery of voters after the coalition with GERB. Looking at the MRF and "Vazrazhdane" - we also see serious negative trends, said sociologist Dobromir Zhivkov from "Market LINKS".

Sociologists claim that a large part of the electorate decided to vote at the last moment.

"There is a so-called conformist vote that follows the winner, which is given at the last moment. It is still early to assess what part of the votes cast for "Progressive Bulgaria" are such a vote, but not insignificant. On the one hand, this is a bonus, on the other hand, it is a danger, because it changes its favorite very quickly," Petrova pointed out.

"This vote has two components - in which people simply vote with the winners and feel emotionally satisfied that they have bet on the right political player. On the other hand, what is happening with GERB and DPS shows that there is another conformist vote - that of the networks, Zhivkov added.

According to data from „Market LINKS“, „Progressive Bulgaria“ is winning a full majority in the 52nd National Assembly.

„This is a clear mandate for governance. Clear responsibility must be assumed. I do not know how open such a government would be to potential other partnerships, although in this configuration of the parliament there are not too many of them, based on the requests that were made during the campaign. PP-DB and „Vazrazhdane“ are the only potential partners that are needed for a constitutional majority and a change in the Supreme Judicial Council,“ Zhivkov said.

According to „Alpha Research“ Generation Z became more active at the end of election day, and this is evident from the queues at the polling stations in Studentki Grad.

“Their vote was not cast in support of one party, the PP-DB, who were the initiators of the protests and expected that this generation would support them. On the contrary, “Progressive Bulgaria“ is the favorite of this generation as well, but their vote is fragmented between the different political players,“ explained Petrova.

They drew attention to the fact that the vote of confidence is not for changing the geopolitical orientation of the country, but for changing the system of government.
