„This time the people were more than the schemes. This is what these elections will be remembered for“. This was stated by the acting Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov on his Facebook profile.
„We came with the mission for a fair vote and we did not give up for a moment, we did not "go home", we did not say "we will not be able to do this". They tried to scare us with fake news, phony media and fabricated accusations. We stood our ground.
And the Bulgarian citizens felt it.
It was also seen in the voter turnout. It was also seen in the trust. 200% more signals means 200% recognition that the government did what was expected.
The OSCE and PACE observers confirmed it. Even the parties acknowledged it, albeit half-heartedly.
Yes, there can be fair elections in Bulgaria.
However, how can we guarantee that this was not an exception?
Two-thirds of the Ministry of Interior's investigations hit a wall of prosecutors. In the city prosecutor's office, the score is 72:0 - in favor of the Ministry of Interior. 72 people with immunity - candidates for parliament - were found guilty of vote brokering. 0 with their immunity revoked. This means a boycott - both of the investigation and of the possibility of retaliation.
What's worse is that these traders with a party alibi can return in the next elections. And then this cabinet will not exist.
This does not undo what has been done. But it shows where the next problem is. And it must be solved.
The elections are over. It is time for the parties to stop campaigning behind the backs of the caretaker prime minister and ministers. They have tasks ahead of them. The decisions are expected from them“, concluded Gyurov.
