This is a belated act, the law withdrew it a long time ago, this remaining in office was not needed by anyone, except Peevski and Borisov. Thus, Ivan Demerdzhiev from “Progressive Bulgaria“ commented on “Face to Face“ Borislav Sarafov's decision to resign from the post of acting prosecutor general.
On Monday on bTV, he stated that Sarafov should be removed “by force“ from the Prosecutor General's Office, and this morning gave him an ultimatum to resign and this is “his last chance“.
“He destroyed the little trust left in the Bulgarian prosecutor's office and caused quite serious damage to its authority. I requested his resignation today, but if I could, I would have requested it yesterday as well. The second reason is that today there was a meeting of the prosecutor's college at the Supreme Judicial Council, and this situation is intolerable – this was the last moment for it to happen“, added the former acting Minister of Interior and former Minister of Justice.
Asked if Sarafov was scared of him, Demerdzhiev said: “It is one thing to want to, another thing to be able to, the third and fourth thing is to do it. And on Monday I spent enough time to make it clear to Mr. Sarafov that this intolerable situation will not continue. Once we come to power - there are tools, there are ways and they will be implemented. It is not possible for someone not to be the chief prosecutor and to sit in the chief prosecutor's office, while the entire country turns a blind eye for months. This is unacceptable“.
He was categorical that Sarafov's example should not be followed and people in the prosecutor's office should not make attempts to regroup once again in order for this model to survive.
“We are motivated to stop corruption, we are motivated to ensure justice, legality, security, peace in the lives of Bulgarian citizens. This enormous trust that is being voted to us is an enormous responsibility. We are aware of it and will do everything possible“, added Demerdzhiev.
He explained that the Supreme Judicial Council will rule on the proposal for disciplinary punishment of Sarafov.
In relation to the new acting prosecutor general Vanya Stefanova, he said that he did not know her. “Sarafov was the symbol of the Peevshtina in the prosecutor's office. The fact that this symbol is leaving cannot lead to anything worse in this situation – in any case, it will be something better. There is no ideal option, because these same people selected the two deputies who could potentially take his position“.
He was categorical that he expects that with his resignation from office, the umbrella over certain politicians will cease to exist.
