The new 240 MPs are people with different professional backgrounds. Most will cross the threshold of Parliament for the first time, others are returning after a long break.
There will be four former prime ministers in the new parliament, bTV reports. Among them are Galab Donev, who headed two caretaker governments of President Rumen Radev, Boyko Borisov, who governed the country three times, Rosen Zhelyazkov, who headed the last government, as well as Nikolay Denkov, who headed the cabinet, which became popular as the “assembly“.
The number of former ministers in the new National Assembly will also be large. There are also four former speakers of the parliament – three from GERB and one from the coalition “We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria“.
Significant political figures are also returning to the parliament. Anton Kutev, one of the well-known faces of the BSP, as well as Petar Vitanov, are already part of the ranks of “Progressive Bulgaria“. “I am a leftist and I am sad that a group of people sold out the BSP for a pittance“, said Petar Vitanov.
Former GERB Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov is also returning after an absence from several parliaments. “I have not missed much of Bulgaria's development“, he commented.
The most new faces are from the newest formation – 2, journalist Vyara Petrova, as well as Olympic champion Ivet Goranova.
„We have taken responsibility before you and it is time for real action!“, said Ivet Goranova.
For the first time, Stefan Arsov from GERB will also sit on the parliamentary bench. He pointed out that his experience as the regional governor of Sofia will also help him in the legislative branch. „I hope that in this parliament we will see parliamentarism, normal dialogue and debate about ideas and causes, and not what we have seen in recent years – shouting from the podium, fighting, insults and curses&rdash;, said Arsov.
The new parliament will have deputies with different professions – entrepreneurs, doctors and engineers. Georgi Georgiev from “Vazrazhdane“, for example, is a chemist.
“I would compare our group and myself to the element oxygen, because we are very active like oxygen, we are very explosive when it comes to defending national interests. Just as we cannot do without oxygen, we cannot do without “Vazrazhdane“, he said.
The parliament will also have representatives of different ethnic communities and religions. Among them is Marin Tikhomirov. “Thank you to all of you who chose me to be your voice where it will be heard“, he said.
