The Deputy Chairman of GERB Tomislav Donchev commented on the air of Nova TV on the start of the new 52nd parliament, highlighting the election of a government and the adoption of the state budget as the main priorities.
In his words, the opposition must play the role of an alternative and be constructive and organized in order to offer real political competition. He emphasized that a strong opposition is necessary for any government and can become a “permanent alternative“ if it is consistent and responsible.
Donchev stated that GERB supports the principle that the Speaker of the National Assembly should be elected by the largest parliamentary force, as this follows the democratic tradition. According to him, however, it is currently unclear which candidacy will be proposed.
Commenting on possible constitutional changes and reforms in the judicial system, he indicated that GERB would support reasonable proposals if they are in the interest of the state and the institutions.
