However, the management of the 70,000-seat stadium in St. Petersburg was adamant that the event could not take place without a valid contract.
"A call from above" canceled the megastructure?
According to an investigation by the local publication “Fontanka“, quoted by United24 Media (united24media.com), the real reason for the logistical collapse is political pressure. Sources claim that the show was unofficially canceled after a direct “call from above“ from Moscow, with influential conservative figures and Kremlin-friendly businessmen who oppose the American star's presence likely behind the blocking of the concert.
The propaganda and controversy surrounding Ye intensified in mid-August, when the BBC (bbc.com) reported that the rapper was preparing to become the biggest Western star to perform in Russia since the invasion of Ukraine. The news caused a wide public outcry, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov even forced to answer questions about whether a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Kanye West was planned, to which he replied that this was “not within the competence of the presidential administration“.
