Italian military base in Middle East hit by missile - 1

An Italian military base in the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan was hit by a missile overnight, with no reports of casualties, the Italian Defense Ministry said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.

“A missile hit our base in Erbil. There were no casualties or injuries among the Italian military personnel. Everyone is fine“, the ministry said in a post on the “Ex“ platform shortly after midnight today.

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto is in contact with senior military commanders about the incident, the ministry added.

Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said in a separate article in “Ex“ that Italian soldiers at the base had taken refuge in a bunker and were “well and safe“.

Italy has approximately 300 soldiers in Erbil working to train Kurdish forces, the ministry said on its website.

Yesterday, Agence France-Presse reported that Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had attacked US bases in Bahrain, including the US Navy's Fifth Fleet base, as well as three sites in Iraqi Kurdistan.
