The initiative committee “Narodna Sila“ is nominating the candidacies of Assoc. Prof. Georgi Dimov for president and Gen. Dimitar Shivikov for vice president. Their official presentation will take place tomorrow, August 25, at a press conference in Sofia, "Eurocom" reports.
The event will announce the main priorities of the presidential candidate pair, as well as the motivations of the initiative committee to support them. The elections for head of state will be held on October 25 this year.
With their candidacy, the number of participants in the presidential race increases. Among the first to announce their intention to run was the current president Iliana Yotova, who received support from “Progressive Bulgaria“ of Rumen Radev and the BSP, as well as the former Minister of Defense and Ambassador Nikolay Nenchev, nominated by the BZNS with candidate for vice president Tsveta Kirilova.
The battle for “Dondukov“ 2 also includes Ivan Hristanov, former acting Minister of Agriculture in the cabinet of Andrey Gyurov. He will be an independent candidate, supported by an initiative committee, in which musician Denis Rizov also participates. Hristanov is the founder of the “Unity“ party.
In the meantime, the candidacy of the former acting Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov, around whom the DB and PP are uniting, is also expected to be nominated tomorrow. GERB has not yet announced its candidate, and analysts say it is unlikely that a joint candidacy with PP-DB will be reached.
The deadline for registering candidates with the CEC is September 22. The ballot numbers will be drawn by lot on September 23, and the election campaign begins on September 25. In the previous presidential election in 2021, there were 23 registered candidate pairs.
