US President Donald Trump said that his government has taken 50 million barrels of oil from Venezuela and that it is selling some of that oil on the open market.
"We took 50 million barrels of oil from Venezuela in the first four days. There are millions more barrels. We're selling it on the open market. We're bringing down oil prices," Trump said at a press conference at the White House.
The US president also said that he was considering including Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado in some capacity in the governance of Venezuela, but did not specify what role she would play.
"We're talking to her and maybe we'll include her in some way. "I would be very happy if we could do that, Maria," said Trump, who last week met with Machado, who presented him with her Nobel Peace Prize.
Trump also said he had an important conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The United States is trying to protect the Kurds in Syria, Trump also said, in response to a journalist's question about protecting the rights of Syrian Kurds.
