A woman was fined 30,000 euros for killing a cat in Greece, the online edition of the Greek newspaper “Ethnos“ reports. The incident occurred in the village of Romiri on the island of Zakynthos in the Ionian Sea, BTA reported.

The woman, 63, was arrested on Saturday. She is accused of torturing and killing an animal.

According to police, the arrested woman tied a cat to a wall and then killed it. The animal's owner reported the incident.

The police immediately launched an investigation, which led to the woman's arrest. An administrative fine of 30,000 euros was imposed. The detainee was handed over to the Zakynthos prosecutor's office. The Animal Protection Law already provides for harsher penalties, including imprisonment, the publication states.

This is the second such case in just a few hours on August 22. Earlier on Saturday, on another island - Corfu, another woman was arrested for running over and killing a dog sleeping on the road with her car, recalls the newspaper "Ethnos".
